Auto Appointments
Customers completing a title transfer/change in ownership, adding or removing a lien, or completing a first-time Texas registration as a new resident can visit our office without an appointment. You can walk into any of our branches for these transactions on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. We are closed on Wednesdays. If you need any assistance with any of the transactions above outside of our walk-in hours, you can schedule an appointment at your convenience. If you need to title or register a fleet of vehicles for a business, please e-mail us to make other arrangements at hcauto@tax.hctx.net.
Customers who need to clear a title rejection or complete a transaction that is found in the 2nd Floor hold file must schedule an appointment. If the documents are found in the hold file, please email Mailintitle@tax.hctx.net for your record number.
You can renew online for a registration that is up to 12 months expired, but your month of expiration will remain the same. The online receipt is proof of registration, and the new sticker will be mailed directly to you.

You can renew at a grocery store if you have your renewal notice, a passing inspection that is less than 90 days old, and if your registration is not more than 9 months expired. However, your month of expiration will remain the same.
You can complete registration renewals by mail no matter what the expiration date is on the registration. Mail in a copy of the insurance, an inspection that is less than 90 days old, proof of residency, and a check or money order made payable to Harris County. Also, include form MV-469A. The registration fee for most vehicles and light trucks weighing 6,000 lbs or less is $78.25. The price increases if a ticket was issued for expired registration. Mailed in payments should be in the form of a money order, cashier's check, or personal check payable to Harris County. All checks must list a U.S. drivers license number, U.S. identification card, or U.S. passport number.
If you are picking up special plates, please verify on our website that the plates have arrived in our office. Do not use emails you receive from any other entity except our office as proof of arrival. This is to make sure that you are not turned away for your appointment.
